Dear Friend,

My name is Suzanne Corson and I am thrilled to officially announce that I have been appointed the Executive Director of Komen CSNJ.  I began my tenure with the Central and South Jersey Affiliate in February, 2012 and have had the pleasure of getting to know many of you through my roles working on the Race for the Cure, Golf for the Cure and other events, at volunteer and community events and through our mission outreach. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I am honored to take on this new level of leadership.

Throughout the past five years, I have been so proud to be a part of this organization and all we have accomplished.  My predecessors, and all of you, have taught me so much and challenged me to become the person and leader I am today.  I am excited to demonstrate my commitment to our mission and innovative ideas to successfully lead Komen CSNJ into the future.

We have just announced the 2017-18 Community Grant Slate which includes 10 organizations located in our 13 county service area.  These programs will provide not just breast cancer education and free mammograms to underinsured men and women in our community, but also address other barriers that prevent at-risk populations.  This year, we are funding transportation, financial assistance, translation services, child care, patient navigation and diagnostic services.  We will reach 19,000 men and women in New Jersey.  The impact Komen CSNJ will have on their lives is real.  It's important.  And, in some cases, it is life-saving.

The day I look forward to each year, and spend months planning, is our largest signature event, the Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey Race for the Cure.  It’s such a meaningful day because we come together, as a group, to honor survivors, their struggles and their successes, to acknowledge how this disease has touched the lives of so many individuals, and to celebrate how far we’ve come.  This past year, we captured stories of survival including Lola’s, who was diagnosed 39 years ago during a time when no one talked about breast cancer.  Every year, I notice Lola and all her beads, as I’m sure many of you have.

Today, registration opens for the 2017 Race for the Cure which will be held on Sunday, November 5 at Six Flags Great Adventure.  Our goal is to raise $500,000.  We need you at the Race this year.  We need you to register today, start a team and fundraise.  Together, we can continue working towards our goal, a world without breast cancer.  Be an Early Bird and Save $5!  Register before June 30 with the code EB17.

We are hosting two "Meet the Staff" events on June 14 and June 21 at our Lawrenceville headquarters.  Please join us!  Also, check our website for a list of our upcoming events and visit us when we are in your community.

I look forward to connecting with each of you soon and hopefully seeing you at the Race on November 5.  Please feel free to reach out to me at scorson@komencsnj.org or (609) 896-1201, any time with feedback, questions or just to say hello.

Sincerely,

We hosted our first IMPACT Luncheon on March 23 at the Hamilton Manor.  It was a wonderful afternoon planned by a dedicated committee, featuring great speakers and supported by generous sponsors.  READ MORE.

I remember Ashleigh Jones and her sister,  Fawn, from my very first Race for the Cure in 2012.  Fawn, sadly, lost her fight in 2015 but Ashleigh continues to fundraise in her memory and for all of those still fighting.  Ashleigh raised over $15,000 in 2016 and was our Top Fundraiser.
